Volume 1999 - Issue 6                   Abbeville, Louisiana                     December 1997

A Special Event by Beverly Desormeaux Hebert and Barbara Hebert Hebert

In 1983, three citizens of Abbeville, LA. attended the Easter Omelette Celebration in Bessieres, France and even knighted the first of Abbeville's Chevaliers (Chefs). They returned home with the determination to bring Abbeville closer to its French heritage by hosting an Annual Omelette Festival and joining the sisterhood of cities such as Ferjus and Bessieres, France; Dumbea, New Calerdonia; Granby, Quebec, and Melmedy, Belgium. These cities, as well as Abbeville, Louisiana are the only places in the world to celebrate the omelette.

Be a part of the Hebert family reunion and treat yourself to an event that is both rare and fun. We hope to share with you the "Omelette of Frendship."

Ingredients for the Giant Omelette

5,000 eggs 75 green bell peppers 50 lbs. onions
1 1/2 gal. cooking oil 4 gal. onion tops 6 1/2 gal. milk
2 gal. parsley 52 lbs. of butter 3 boxes of salt
crawfish tails Tabasco Pepper Sauce (to taste)

Was a success! Twenty-five of our members and guests attended. Even though it was chilly outside, Barbara and Byron Hebert were able to give our guest a wonderful tour of Historic Abbeville all dressed in its Christmas lights. Yea, man! The punch was punchy! It had three kinds of liquor in it - a Bobby & Beverly special. It was gooood! Sorry you missed it. There will be more parties later.

Sunday August 8 --- Lafayette, LA

You may be wondering, why Lafayette? The director and board of the Acadian Village will host all reunion families in separate groups at separate times. We have selected August 8 as our day at the Village, sharing with three other reunion families. The Heberts get to visit with not only each other but with other members of three Acadian families. We can bring along our memorablilia booth to sell to other interested families. In addition, there will be food booths and music at the pavilion. We are planning to transfer our genealogy set-up to the Village for that day. So, come relax and enjoy the last day of the 1999 Hebert Reunion.
