Acadian Genealogy
The True Acadian Period: 1604-1755

As with any form of genealogy, there are certain basic records that we use.  The primary source of information comes from census and church records.  Notarial records may also include genealogical and background data.  Over the years, many others have used the available sources and have compiled works to make it easier for us.
  • Census Records: I am working on putting ALL of the Acadian census data online
  • Church Records: What records are available and how can they be accessed
  • Notarial Records: Yes, you can find Acadian material in surviving notarial records
  • Compiled Works: Someone else has done a lot of the work for you
  • Surnames: What names are Acadian?  Which ones were the earliest settlers?

NOTE: White's Dictionnaire will thoroughly cover the Acadian
genealogy of this entire period.  Part 1, 1636-1714, has already been published.

God Bless.
