| Although they had used small boats for traveling in Acadia, they became even more dependent upon them in south Louisiana. Horses were also used to ride and to pull buggies. The mid-1800s saw the steamboat arrive on the bayous of south Louisiana. About the same time, railroad tracks were laid across Acadiana to help facilitate movement of people and goods. |
