| As in Acadia, most Cajuns didn't want to get
involved in miltary action. Some did serve in the Spanish militia
during the Revolutionary War. In the War of 1812, there were hundreds
of Cajun soldiers. Even more were involved in the Civil War.
It is military service that accounts for the Americanization of many Cajuns. In World War I and II, Cajuns were sent to distant places. This expanded their horizons and may have led many to leave south Louisiana. |
