 Boudreauxs gather for reunion

By FELICIA LANDRY, The Daily Iberian, 8/14/99

Boudreauxs from throughout the U.S. and Canada were in New Iberia Friday for the
     start of their family reunion.

Opening ceremonies were held in New Iberia City Park at 9 a.m. with a
performance by the Acadiana Symphony Orchestra, coordinator Inez Barras said.
She said approximately 400 people were in attendance, adding that she expected
almost 1,000 for the whole weekend.

"It's going real well," Barras said. "The atmosphere is good and the entertainment is
great - we couldn't ask for a better reception."

California resident James Link said he was in town to see family. Link said he lived
in Louisiana until he was 12 and has ties to the Boudreauxs. He noted that he, his
wife and two daughters were heading to the genealogy room to trace their family
     heritage.

David and Cheryl LaGarde of Houston were also in New Iberia for the event. David
said his wife is a descendant of the Boudreauxs.

"We're meeting family she didn't even know she had."

Jane Boudreaux Bundy of Houma said the camaraderie was especially nice.

"I've been working in the genealogy room and these people are so excited to find out
that they can give us just one name and we're able to trace their family history."

Activities continue today with the actual "family reunion" at 2 p.m. at the Cyr Gates
Community Center, Barras said. Also taking place will be entertainment by Helen
     Boudreaux and Nik-L-Beer, she said.

Barras said all Boudreauxs are descendants of Michel and Michelle Aucoin
Boudreau, who came to Louisiana by way of Martinique after being exiled from
Nova Scotia. The couple had five daughters and seven sons, she said.
