| The climate of south Louisiana was perhaps
the biggest change from their previous life. Acadia and France were
cold for much of the year. In Acadia, they often spent months in
the home due to snow and cold weather.
In Louisiana, it was hot for most of the year. Rather than stay in the home, they would often sit out on the porch to catch the breezes. Louisiana was also more humid. This made the heat even harder to handle. Though they didn't have to worry about blizzards, they found another natural disaster in Louisiana ... hurricanes. When a hurricane hit Louisiana, it would often destroy a number of the simple Cajun homes. The flooding of the area was also damaging to property and crops. |
